Fast & Furious 6 confirmed for summer 2013
The gang will all return for Fast & Furious 6 in May 2013. But has this news just put a big delay on the planned Terminator 5?
Say what you like about the Fast & Furious franchise, but it keeps on coming, and shows no sign at all of slowing down. The latest entry, Fast & Furious 5: Rio Heist (or Fast Five, if you live in the US), is closing in on $600m of box office takings worldwide, earned the best reviews for the franchise in a while, and is heading to DVD and Blu-ray at the very start of September.
And, as you might expect with those kind of numbers, it’s not going to be the last in the series.
Universal Pictures has announced that Fast & Furious 6 will be released on May 24th 2013. It’s also confirmed that the full cast is returning, presumably including The Rock. And perhaps most interesting of all, Justin Lin will be back to direct, too.
Lin has helmed the past three films in the franchise, and his involvement with this one was in doubt because he’s also attached to the next film in the Terminator franchise.
Where that leaves Terminator 5 right now is anybody’s guess. Arnold Schwarzenegger has put his movie career on hold for the minute while he sorts out his family affairs, but even so, you’d expect him to be back filming next year at some point.
If Lin is to stay involved with the new Terminator movie, then it’ll be a massive push just to get it ready for 2014 now, more likely the year after.
We’ll wait and see how all of this pans out. In the meantime, expect some more fast cars in two years’ time. Vroom.
