The man who directed Chronicle is confirmed as the helmer of the brand new Fantastic Four movie…

Now here’s some really, really promising news. It’s been no secret that Fox has been looking to get a new Fantastic Four movie going, a reboot after the lukewarm pair of features that were helmed by Tim Story. And, earlier this year, Josh Trank was linked as a possible new director for the new film.

Trank is the man who helmed one of 2012’s most lovely surprises, the excellent Chronicle. Furthermore, it turns out that there was some fire to the smoke of these particular rumours, as Trank has indeed signed on the dotted line to direct the new Fantastic Four. This, friends, is excellent news.

In the Fox slate of comic book movies, its immediate priority is The Wolverine and X-Men: First Class 2. Don’t be surprised, then, to see a new Fantastic Four film – presumably with a brand new cast – in 2014 or 2015. More on the film as we get it.

Good choice, even if he balls it up it still can't be worse than the other two.

Fantastic Four and Daredevil on top of all the Avengers stuff. For pant's sake.

Not much of a surprise considering the success of current superhero films that Fox want to get new movies into production to hold onto the properties they've purchased. The Fantastic Four really deserves proper investment because creatively and conceptually it is so much stronger than other superhero franchises.I'm looking for quality actors like Charlize Theron and Ryan Gosling as Johnny and Sue Storm and the other main characters.

Great choice hopefully they get some top actors in swell , gosling would be awesome. It seems that the original two were along the same lines as batman and a Robin... Just kinda silly takaes on some great work

I just dont get excited about the Fantastic Four, they just seem a bit pants. Thin personalities and stupid powers. Not keen.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh God, yes. YES!!!! (Sorry, just so excited!)

Can they do it without repeating the origin story? How about just jump right into a Skrull war or something?

I have heard a rumor that they're casting Wallace Shawn as the Mole Man. Does anyone have any more info?

Charlize Theron? noooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! did you watch aeon flux

I would love to see a new Fantastic Four movie. Unlike most of the other commetators on the previous films, I don't believe the movie was poorly acted. I think it was poorly written. I think the major flaw of the movie was the characterization of Reed Richards as such a weak, impotent, indecisive character. The immediate effect of this characterization was to destroy the credibility of the romance between he and Sue. If you're spending time wondering how such an attractive, intelligent, vibrant woman as Sue could be attracted to such a milquetoast as Reed, then you are suffering from a credibility gap. That's never a good thing in any type of movie. The second flaw was minimizing of Dr. Doom. A failed businessman? Rreally? Doom is the preeminent Marvel villain! Every single superhero in the Marvel pantheon has to be wary whenever Dr. Doom enters their sphere. That is because he has always been portrayed as an invidual of scope, power, genius and will. Stan Lee once opined that superhero characters were only as good as their villains. That meant that hte more powerful and resourceful your villain was, the more powerful and resourceful your heroes had to be to overcome them. Doom has to be portrayed as an individual of magnitude and power, if he is going to work as a foil for the Fantastic Four. The fine line is to be able to do this without making a caricature out of Doom. An able writer should be able to get the job done. I loved the portrayals of Ben, Johnny and Sue. Although unlikely, I wouldn't mind seeing those actors reprise their roles. A better written Reed and a better drawn villain, whoever that may be, are what the movie needs to succeed, imo.

Is this opinion from the movies or from the comics, drc203?

Oh, great. The guy who's "big idea" for Chronicle was "Let's rip off the Blair Witch Project". Seriously, what the hell is wrong with Hollywood? Yeah, I can't WAIT for two hours of moronic Shaky Cam and out of focus jump-cuts.

Chronicle was actually pretty good. I think the similarities between Blair Witch and Chronicle end with the handheld camera angle.
If you haven't seen Chronicle yet, you definitely should. If you're a fan of good story telling and characterization, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised.
