Alex Garland directing original new sci-fi movie

Alex Garland moves from Dredd to Ex Machina, as he gets set to make his directorial debut...

Alex Garland already has some pedigree in movies under his belt, courtesy of his script work on the likes of Dredd, the hugely underappreciated Never Let Me Go, 28 Days Later and Sunshine. But he's now going to be stepping behind the camera too for his next project.

Garland is set to make a new science fiction thriller, by the name of Ex Machina. He's written the film too, which will tell the story of an extremely rich inventor, who organises for one of his employees to spend a week in his house. The reason? He needs someone to test the AI-driven female robot that said inventor has made.

We might be going out on a limb here, but we'd reckon that said robot might go wrong. Don't hold us to it, though.

Production is set to begin before the year is out, and we'd reckon we'd get to see Ex Machina at some point in 2014. Certainly sounds interesting, and we'll keep you posted on it...

Shame it wasn't Dredd 2 he was directing.
