Final Divergent book to be split into two films

The third and final Divergent book, Allegiant, is to be split into two films.

Truthfully, how many people didn't see this one coming?

Summit Entertainment got its adaptation of the Divergent trilogy of books from Veronica Roth off to a decent start with the first film. Divergent, directed by Neil Burger, may have endured crappy reviews, but its box office delivered. The film has taken $116m in the US so far, although its worldwide gross is lagging a little behind. Nonetheless, it's a solid hit. Summit has already got the next film, Insurgent, moving along, this time with Robert Schwentke directing.

The final book in trilogy is Allegiant, and news has now broken that this will be split into two films. So, we're going to get Allegiant - Part One on March 18th 2016, and Allegiant - Part Two on March 24th 2017.

We can't say we've read the book, so have no idea if there's a natural gap where the story splits. But with every split book adaptation so far, we've not seen a natural breaking point yet. And this split, if we're being honest, is all about the money. There doesn't seem much point pretending otherwise.

What's wrong with a good old fashioned trilogy, eh?
