Divergent: first trailer
Limitless director Neil Burger returns with Divergent, a dystopian thriller starring Shailene Woodley. The first trailer's here...
"The future belongs to those who know where they belong," Kate Winslet's stern leader tells us in the first trailer for Divergent, a thriller set in a future Chicago where citizens are pigeonholed into one of five personality groups. Shailene Woodley stars as Tris, a teenager who doesn't quite fit into society's neat little boxes, and ends up on the wrong end of an unpleasant conspiracy as a result.
Director Neil Burger was behind the surprisingly entertaining 2011 thriller Limitless, so we're hoping for similarly decent things from Divergent - even if it is clearly marketed at an audience who packed into cinemas to see The Hunger Games. Both movies are derived from popular young-adult novels (Divergent was written by Veronica Roth), both have similar budgets (around $80m) and they both have almost identical release windows (March in UK cinemas).
Only time will tell whether Divergent, and its strong cast, which includes Maggie Q, Ashley Judd and Mekhi Phifer as well as Winslet and Woodley, will have quite the same box office impact.
Divergent's out in UK cinemas on the 21st March 2014.
