Gary Oldman joins Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Matt Reeves' Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes adds Gary Oldman to its cast list...

Slowly but surely, the cast is coming together for Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes follow-up, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. There aren't too many returning from the last film, given that some time will have passed in narrative terms by the time we get to Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. That said, Andy Serkis is returning to lend his motion capture brilliance to the role of Caesar.

New additions to the cast? Well, we already knew that Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee were taking on sizeable roles in the new movie. And now, Coming Soon reports that Gary Oldman is set to sign on the dotted line, to play the leader of a human colony in the new film. We don't know much more than that at the moment, but Oldman's addition is clearly a good one. He's in the RoboCop reboot too of course, which is set to land a month or two before Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is set to start production shortly, under the eye of director Matt Reeves. It's earmarked for release on May 23rd 2014.

Any film can benefit from this man's genius. Good news.

Was happy with how Rise ended and didn't see the need for a sequel and definitely wasn't going to give them my money for it!

... But now intrigued by Oldman's presence..

To be fair, there is a lot of story to tell between the ending of Rise and the moment Taylor sets foot back on a vastly changed Earth. If done right, it could be quite interesting to see what they come up with.

And Oldman does make any film better :)

that's an understatement! you need 5 films just to tell the civil war between man and apes!!

Are you kidding the ending had SEQUEL screaming at you from every angle, i cant wait

Maybe to the producers!!
But I think I can fill in what happens in between the two films... We get our asses handed to us on a silver platter by apes riding horses and taking down choppers!!

They're faster, stronger and now indeed smarter than us on every level.. Where does the viewer actually need a sequel to advance an obvious plot?

Now don't take this as a boycott, I just won't be watching it till its on Sky/ a friend shells out the cash for this money grabbing blockbuster.

On topic.. BRING ON OLDMAN!! Although I do think that Franco's performance is hard to beat!
