What direction will The Legend Of Conan take?

Arnold Schwarzeneggar as Conan The Barbarian (1981)

Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return in the title role of The Legend Of Conan. And some details of the film have emerged...

While development on Terminator 5 has been in limbo, Arnold Schwarzenegger has seemingly committed to make a new film in one of his other franchises instead. Thus, it was announced that Chris Morgan would write and produce The Legend Of Conan, with Schwarzenegger involved.

Schwarzenegger is critical of the second Conan movie, Conan The Destroyer, in his recent autobiography. And Morgan, talking to Hero Complex, has admitted that the first question he faced from the returning action star was why reprise the role. "To put yourself out there in your 60s? As Conan the Barbarian? I could see why he’d hesitate", admitted Morgan.

However, Morgan has now confirmed that the film is "not a reboot, not a remake. Just an update. Where has the character been all this time. A catch-up with Conan".

So what direction will The Legend Of Conan take, that convinced Schwarzenegger to get involved? “He’s not going out and fighting battles, but he ends up getting drawn into something,” Morgan said. “And he has to access the barbarian he was in his youth. I love that Conan has been many things in his life, notably a pirate, a major tactician and a commander of men. In this movie, we’re going to tap into some of those things – things you haven’t seen on screen yet".

Morgan won't be shying away from the fact that Conan is a bit rusty, although he's also confirmed that he may yet bring in another writer to sort the script out (he's contracted to write Fast & Furious 7). The idea is to push for a summer 2014 release, and we'll keep you posted as we hear more.

They need to change that title for starters... 'Legend of Conan' sounds like a cheap SyFy knock-off flick! Bring back the mighty (John) Milius and have him revise his 'King Conan: Crown of Iron' screenplay he finished about eight years ago, plus get someone as equally bonkers as Milius - Paul Verhoeven would be the ideal pick - to direct and you have an instant blood-soaked classic right there...

Sincerely hopes it makes good on the end of the original and gives us the older King Conan.

Paul Verhoeven! That's the best idea I've heard in a long time. They should get him ASAP!

Agreed. From what I heard, the John Milius script was meant to be really good.

Hour Of The Dragon or nothing
