Den of Geek loves ... Ryan Reynolds
Sarah Dobbs
Another in our bi-weekly series of love letters to the people, characters and shows we love above all else. This week, Sarah pays tribute to Ryan Reynolds
I was recently asked to justify my love for Ryan Reynolds, and I claimed I could do it in two words: "Blade fuckin' Trinity."
(Yes, I know. That's the joke.)
I'm serious, though. Reynolds has apparently been on my radar for much longer than I realised - he was in my favourite ever episode of The X-Files, albeit briefly, and I used to obsessively watch Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place back in the day - but Blade Trinity was when I really realised that the man is awesome. Beyond awesome.
Maybe it's the beard. Blade Trinity was the first time we saw Reynolds with a beard, but then again it's also the first time we saw him all bulked up and musclified, which also might have something to do with it. Or maybe it was the script that kept him wisecracking all the way through the movie (there were some particularly brilliant turns of phrase that I can't, in all good conscience, reproduce on a site like this, but - they were awesome, okay?). Whatever it was, Ryan Reynolds was the coolest part of Blade Trinity, and he singlehandedly made it worth watching. More than once, even.
Plus, if we must go down that route, he's really hot. But so, supposedly, are a load of other male celebrities, and they're all boring and rubbish, while Ryan Reynolds is awesome, funny, and likes comics. Reynolds 1, rest of the world 0.
Unfortunately, Blade Trinity is still the pinnacle of his awesomeness since The Amityville Horror sucked and Smokin' Aces was just sort of okay, but even so, Reynolds himself is incredibly watchable.
And hot.
So, Ryan Reynolds, Den of Geek salutes you, or drools over you, depending on which of us you're talking about. But we all think you're cool.

Re: Den of Geek loves ... Ryan ReynoldsI like Ryan reynolds but wish he would make more films that I would enjoy watching. He may be funny but when you're sitting through a film like Waiting you question whether he couldn't find somewhere more interesting to apply that funny.

Re: Den of Geek loves ... Ryan ReynoldsRyan Reynolds was also in the last watchable National Lampoon film: Van Wilder.
These comments would be so much better if they were in the right order.

Re: Den of Geek loves ... Ryan ReynoldsIf you think it's bad having your girlfriend swoon at Reynolds, try having your heterosexual, male, best friend come out of the cinema and say "I love Ryan Reynolds. He has a beard. You have a beard." and then try and caress your beard in a slightly sexual way... *rocks backwards and forwards* |
