First trailer for new take on Carrie

Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore star in the new take on Carrie. And here's a trailer...

As we noted yesterday, there are reasons to be positive about a new take on Carrie. Stephen King's original novel still has things to explore in it that Brian De Palma's terrific earlier big screen take on the material didn't cover. Then there's a strong cast - led by Chloe Grace Moretz in the title role, and Julianne Moore as her mother. Finally, write off director Kimberly Peirce at your peril: Boys Don't Cry remains a very strong film.

So, the ingredients are in place to make Carrie work, and now we have the first teaser trailer - which debuted at New York Comic Con over the weekend - here for you to see. The film arrives in March in the US, and a few weeks later in the UK, and here's the teaser for it...

I was really impressed with the tone of this trailer. Simple and quite effective. Not too much revealed which is good. I think avid readers of the novel can be rest assured that the scale of this remake will be bigger and better than the original. Especially both after the destruction of the prom where this teaser begins and the finale of course. I wonder if they will stick to the original source by having the White Home destroyed with raining stones. Not too sure about the voiceovers but just watching this teaser has got my interest, even though I am not a fan of remakes by any means. I hope this suceeds expectations, I really do.

Agree. Quite like the original, but the book was a bit more epic in scale and it looks like they'll carry that across given the destruction evident in the trailer. The cast + Kimberley Pierce make me hope this is better than most other horror remakes Hollywood churns out.

I like what looks like a greater emphasis on the destruction of the town and Carrie's overall immersion in a tragedy that's town-wide. Plus this is chilling. Ahhh excited!

I want this film to be awesome but that trailer doesn't really give much away, does it?

It's a decent enough trailer but Moretz doesn't seem to have the innocent yet creepy other-worldness that Sissy Spacek had which made the original so memorable.

The looks pretty much copy the De Palma classic, so it will be more of a remake of the first movie than a different version of the book. Probably made to look "better" because of more massive special effects, and judging by the idiotic comments of some , will probably find it's audience. It will maybe lack the class and the subtlety of the first great one.

The only idiotic comment I see is yours

SPOILERS:Does it really look like that? In the book Carrie causes the town to be destroyed, in the DePalma film she just causes the high school gym to burn, and a car crash. In addition, the book was interjected at numerous points with news articles and accounts about what happened to the town, emphasising the scary reputation Carrie now has in the minds of other people who never understood her. The trailer at least seems to take this on board in the form of the voiceover.

So that's 2 aspects of the book which weren't in the original film... not sure what else you could glean from the trailer...

Pfffft! Just watch the original. Honestly ..........

I really like this trailer. Those who've read the novel will remember it opens and ends with transcripts from government hearings investigating what had happened.

Nice little teaser trailer, but it's far too early to judge this one in any respect. This is a promising start, but that's all it is.
