Captain America: The Winter Soldier news round-up

Scarlett Johansson, Avengers 2, fresh photography and a new Captain America: The Winter Soldier image...

Please note: there's a potentially very light spoiler for the film ahead, where we talk about one location where the movie is shooting.

With Thor: The Dark World confirmed for DVD and Blu-ray next month, the Marvel Studios publicity machine is gradually turning its attention to its next project, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It's the film that effectively fires the starting gun for summer blockbuster season this year, and its late March UK release date suggests that season will be a long one in 2014.

A couple of new bits and bobs to do with the film, then.

Firstly, Scarlett Johansson has been chatting about reprising the role of Black Widow, in particular the ensemble approach. "My first Marvel film was Iron Man 2 and then we did The Avengers and then Chris Evans and I did Cap 2", she said, "but I think that film, there's a couple of new characters. The Falcon is a new character in that, and of course Sebastian Stan is kind of continuing his character, obviously he's playing the Winter Soldier. But these characters really kind of take on something bigger than they've ever seen, so I think it's something that they can't do without each other".

She also talked about taking on the role for a fourth time in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, teasing Joss Whedon's screenplay for that movie. "I think the script is dark and it’s dry, it’s got this amazing one-liner, glass-cutting sense of humor", she said.

Some additional photography is underway too on Captain America 2, although we can't imagine there'll be too much of it. It's unclear whether these are reshoots, pick-ups or new scenes, but the cast have been filming at a Los Angeles hospital (we have no idea why). Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie and Scarlett Johansson are amongst those who have been spotted there.

Finally, a new image from the film has popped up over at the Los Angeles Times. So we'll leave with Evans as Captain America, and Anthony Mackie in his Falcon outfit...

The film arrives in UK cinemas on March 28th 2014.

If Falcon and Stark ever meet, I can imagine the insults Tony will fire at him regarding those clumsy wings and 'suit': "So... No armour, eh? Hmmm... Helmet too heavy? Okay... That's some confidence you got there, fella."

I assume the old ww2 uniform will be to jog bucky's memory. Makes me realise how much I like the new 'secret avengers' uniform.

Frankly the more I see of this movie the more I'm looking forward to it.

And that's not just because I'm a cap fan boy..

No kiddin. It's the first of this year's very promising superhero films and not the least. I don't know if I'm looking forward more to this or xmen DofP.
At least with DofP I know even less due to the least spoilery trailer for a movie in years.

No problem with the location spoiler. Every person who has seen the trailer know that at least one major character ends up in pretty bad shape, so it's logical to assume it's related to that scene.

The trailer looks like its gonna show cap at his finest. The elevator scene is perfect. I thought wasnt appropriately utilized in avengers. He did less superhuman acts than black widow. Like when he flung her up and she caught the chitauri craft with one hand when it was going pretty fast I was like "why didn't cap do that?" Black widows awesome but she's not super strong. I don't know. AnywAy, this looks like its gonna show him to his ultimate potential

What I'm looking forward to is Tony Stark butting heads with Ant Man. "So, your powers are ... ants, am I right? Oh, and you have the strength of a whole 180 pound man, huh. Impressive. Wow, is my suit itchy. Seriously, what do you do with ant...ow, something's biting me. Ow! Ow ow ow ... get these damned ants out of my suit.... ow!"

I agree. And I have a strong feeling that even after I do see it, I won't be able to stop smiling. I love Captain America (Steve Rogers and yes, the actor, Chris Evans) but mostly because of what he embodies and represents as a hero aka. Avenger.

I think it will demonstrate just how much more stronger he will become in order to do more in battle and how that will show the increased potential he has as a fighter and also as a man accepting and coming to terms with his past in order to be better for the future. He was struggling in the first Avengers movie (he still hadn't adjusted to present day/modern life) and I think the new movie will show some of his maturing of that.

I sure hope so and it certainly seems as much. I loved the first cap and am pretty sure this will be better. In the meantime, I'll get my fix of super soldiering and high tech weaponry in The Keepers: World War Three

I'm totally with you on that. He's my second favorite hero of all times. (the other currently being dead but coming back in April)

Personally, I am most looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy. I cannot wait for a trailer just to get an idea of what that could possibly look like (I could only find really shaky clips of the Comic Con teaser). But I will definitely be seeing Cap on opening weekend, it looks huge.

I wonder when the trailer will come out. I already want to watch it. I want others to want to watch it!

I am so glad they added THE FALCON in this Cap Movie. He was a big deal when he first appeared ( First African AMERICAN marvel Superhero), back in late 60's and early 70's it was a big deal ( especially to African American comic book fans and others who enjoyed the realism of Marvel's fantasy world. ), it inspired teenagers to read . he and Cap were quite a team and appeared in many comics together, There was even a book titled Captain America and the Falcon"
It shows how the movies can both preserve and enhance the meaning and legacy of comics. Keep it up marvel, and don't ignore us True Believers, while you reach out to New Believers.

Falcon responds...." well I didn't have my Daddy's trust fund to make my suit, so I think I did pretty good with what I had to work with... If I had your toys, I would have something even more spectacular, BTW, Chicks dig the wings!
