First poster lands for Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel's first film of 2014, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has its first poster. It's, er, a bit predictable...

Chris Evans is still hard at work as the shoot for Captain America: The Winter Soldier heads to its final week or two. The movie, which co-stars the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Robert Redford, is being directed by the Russo brothers, and has already, intriguingly, being described as something of a political thriller.

This first teaser poster for the movie, released ahead of Comic-Con, gives precisely nothing away. We figure most of us could have guessed that a shield would form part of the film. But we wonder if it's the start of a build-up to the release of a maiden trailer? At the very least, we're expecting footage to be screened at Comic-Con, even if it's just a brief teaser.

Here's the functional opening salvo of the marketing campaign then. It can only get more exciting from here...

they must love when the day of release matches the month. means the same poster can used in the UK as the States :-)

There's a big hint in that poster ... Some real wear on that powerful shield.

Eh, just needs a fresh coat o' paint, and it'll be fine! ;-)

These Army cut backs eh? You'd think they could shell out for name brand paint!

Red, white, and who? Heh, heh, heh. Just kidding. Looks like someone's the Cap's meWOW, hehe... Sorry.

Hmm... Cool. It might be getting darker.

For an adamantium steel-vibranium alloy it's got a lot of scratches.

I like it. Simple, yet effective.

"and has already, intriguingly, being described"

"Has already being"? I think you invented your own tense there.

Vibranium, actually. Wolverine is the one with the weak-ass adamantium.

I dont thinki its as boring as you think, its got me thinking why has all the paint work been scrubed off, intriguing

Vibranium. The most indestructable metal in the known universe. Nothing can damage it. Bullets bounce off it. Thor's hammer can't make a dent in it. But it can be scuffed and scratched.

It's a little know fact that SHIELD actually hired Steve Jobs to design Captain America's shield back in the days when Apple was working on the first version of OS X.

The removal of the paint is significant, also the redesign of Cap's uniform to a less nationalistic design. This may reflect Captain America's disillusionment at being a government pawn. For me it gives the hope that the final scenes of Winter Soldier may see a return to a more traditional (chainmail please) Cap uniform. Or its just a cool image.

Wow, how inspiring... wonder how long the designer took to come up with this?

So much for subtlety, ay?

Movie is fully vibranium, comics its a composite of adamantium and vibranium

Amusingly, which is to say not, the OP changed his comment to add vibranium to adamantium after I corrected it based on the movie canon.

Apparently, it has been variable in the comics.

But it's just vibranium in the movie franchise.

Of course, another way of looking at it is it's the strongest fake metal any of us have ever heard of ... :)

Tho with the whole vibrating boomerang thing going.
