Captain America

Shooting for Captain America: The Winter Soldier begins shortly, and we've got a few bits and bobs to do with the film right here...

With Iron Man 3 nearing release and Thor: The Dark World in post-production, the next Marvel film to enter physical production will be 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film is being directed by Community veterans Joe and Anthony Russo, although according to star Chris Evans, talking to the Doug Loves Movies podcast, "we start shooting in two months and they haven't given me a script".

Evans acknowledges "that's how Marvel works", and confirms, when asked whether there will be cameos from some of his Avengers colleagues that "there'll be some".

Reports suggest that the start of shooting has been delayed from March to June, which is unlikely to affect the film's release date, but may yet have a slight impact on it. The shoot will take place on location in Los Angeles, Cleveland and Washington. It doesn't look likely that the movie will film in the UK this time.

Finally, the film's Sharon Carter has been found, the female lead of the film. The role has reportedly gone to Emily VanCamp, who appears in the TV show Revenge. Hayley Attwell will not be appearing this time around, we understand (not even in flashback).

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set for release in April 2014.

I'm not a huge fan of Revenge as it feels too much like a soap-opera at times, however one thing that I can't fault is Emily Vancamp's performance, which is spot on. I think she's just as good and talented as many of the best actors around at the moment. It's a shame but probably for the best that Hayley Atwell is not returning as I really enjoyed her performance in the first one. I guess with Bucky Barnes returning, they can't have to many characters come back, otherwise it would become silly.

It would be nice if at the end of the film Cap having faced off against the Winter Soldier and all the other struggles they will throw his way we get a nice scene at the end where he visits the aged Peggy and makes his peace with her. A bit like how they put a quiet scene of Jason Bourne meeting the daughter of one of his early hits at the end of the Bourne Supremacy. It would be a good call back to the first film and a way for the character to let go of the past.
