Confirmed: Josh Brolin was on the Batman shortlist
Ben Affleck might be the new Batman in 2015's Batman/Superman movie, but Zack Snyder did indeed have Josh Brolin on the list too...
It might not feel it now, but there was a time before Ben Affleck was the man who landed the job as the brand new Batman, in 2015's Batman/Superman movie. And in that time, one of the rumoured alternative candidates was Josh Brolin.
Just like Ben Affleck, Josh Brolin is a man with a comic book adaptation under his belt that didn't win too many people over. However, whilst Daredevil has its fans, Jonah Hex is a different beast, a notorious flop that was chopped to bits in the editing room. And, just like Ben Affleck, Josh Brolin was on director Zack Snyder's list for Batman.
Talking to The Huffington Post, Brolin was asked whether he'd had conversations with Snyder about the Batman role, and Brolin admitted "We did. I didn't have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn't turn out. It's okay. It is okay. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I'm happy for Ben".
Brolin went on to defend the casting of Affleck, admitting when he saw the scale of the web reaction that "I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal ... It's like, 'Fuck this guy, I wish he was dead.' And you're like, 'What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He's doing the same thing you are. He's trying to make the best choices he can'".
He added that "I want him to kick ass and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words".
Brolin was promoting his incoming film. Labor Day.
