Joseph Gordon-Levitt in The Dark Knight Rises

Tom Hardy talks about Bane, Anne Hathaway reveals why she wanted the Catwoman role, and there’s a first shot of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It’s our latest The Dark Knight Rises round-up!

As production continues on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, we’ve got one or two more bits and bobs to bring your way.

Firstly, Tom Hardy has been chatting about his role in the film as Bane. Nattering to Total Film, he revealed that when Christopher Nolan got in touch to offer him the role in the movie (“it’s not the guy in Joel Schumacher’s film”, he asserted), it wasn’t the trickiest decision to make.

"Hang on a minute,” he said. “You're asking me to come round the world with you in a Batman movie, playing a villain, and the only downside to it is I have to wear a mask? Hmmm, let me think. I'll get back to you... No, I'm fucking there, man! Anything you need. I think Bane's fucking cool so I'm really excited to play him. Any time you put something over your face, you're going to adopt a personality and a physicality that has nothing to do with acting. It allows a performance to be free."

As for what happens with Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, Hardy wouldn’t be drawn. But he did say that “Christopher Nolan has a plan up his sleeve that’s not at all disappointing. And that is a definite choice that’s watertight in every respect.”

Anne Hathaway, meanwhile, has also been chatting about the film, although she’s been saying less about it. Talking again to Total Film, she wouldn’t give any more information on Catwoman (“I signed a blood oath. Blood thumbprint on the paper”), but did say,“I went after it because it was the best role and Chris was willing to meet me.”

Meanwhile, more pictures of the filming of The Dark Knight Rises have been appearing online. The production is still in Pittsburgh, and we’ve got a first look at Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Gotham City cop, John Blake. He was snapped on set standing next to Marion Cotillard.

All we can conclude from the snap, though, is that he wears a checked shirt, and he folds his arms impressively, and with sufficient sternness.

Er, we’ll have more on The Dark Knight Rises as we get it…
