Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph animators sign up for Angry Birds
The adaptation of the hit videogame Angry Birds gets a boost, as the animators behind Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph step aboard...
The success of touch-screen action puzzle game Angry Birds has been little short of a phenomenon, and in its various incarnations - such as Angry Birds Star Wars - has quickly become the biggest-selling mobile app of all time.
And while making a film out of the property might sound like a thin pretext to make some cash, the game itself has some distinctive and colourful character designs within it - all it needs is a skilled team of writers and animators to inject some more personality into them.
This next bit of news is a bit of a coup for the production, then: animators Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly have reportedly clambered onto the production, which will be a 3D CG movie produced by Despicable Me's John Cohen. Both Kaytis and Reilly have worked on some excellent animated features - the former's recent credits include Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph in his 19-year tenure at Disney, while Reilly worked as a storyboard artist on the successful Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs.
Although adapting any videogame is fraught with pitfalls, the appointment of two experienced animators such as these augurs well for the Angry Birds movie.
Angry Birds is currently set for a summer 2016 release.
