The follow-up to Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland looks set to add Sacha Baron Cohen as its villain...

If all had gone to plan, Sacha Baron Cohen would be filming - or at least in preparation for - the Freddie Mercury biopic right now. However, he and the surviving members of Queen reportedly disagreed as to which direction to take the film, and Ben Whishaw is now taking that role on.

Sacha Baron Cohen hasn't been putting his feet up though, and Variety now reports that he's in pole position to join the sequel to the live action take on Alice In Wonderland.

The new film, on which The Muppets' James Bobin is taking on the director's chair from Tim Burton, will see Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska reprising their roles from the first. And Sacha Baron Cohen is in line for the villain role in the new movie.

The Alice In Wonderland sequel, currently working under the title Through The Looking Glass, has a release date of May 27th 2016.

I enjoyed Mia Wasikowska in the last one and now that she's proved her acting chops in Stoker, the writers should make Alice in a more complex and satisfying character as I didn't think Mia got many opportunities to show what she could do.

Borat and the guy in Sweeney Todd were his best. I sometimes wonder if they were flukes, cuz everything else sucked. Too bad he and Jonah hill weren't on django. Who knows what we missed out on
