New trailer for M Night Shyamalan's After Earth

Trailer Simon Brew 8 Mar 2013 - 05:54

Will Smith and Jaden Smith star. M Night Shyamalan directs. And here's the new trailer for the upcoming After Earth...

Crossing over just a little with the upcoming Tom Cruise-starring Oblivion, After Earth is an upcoming science fiction blockbuster, that will hopefully see director M Night Shyamalan back at the top of his game.

It stars Will Smith and Jaden Smith, with the real life father and son playing, er, a father and son. In this case, a father and son who find themselves stuck on Earth 1000 years after humans have fled. It seems that the pair don't really get on, but might just have to if they want to escape safe and sound.

The movie is set for release on June 7th, and we've got the new trailer for it right here. See what you think...

Looks alright actually. Good on Shamalamading-dong, after The Last Airbender I was convinced he couldn't do an epic.

I was a bit disappointed after the first trailer but this expands a bit on the relationship and Im actually intrigued and looking forward to seeing how it turns out, as his first 3 movies are actually some of my favourites and was most disappointed with his projects after Signs..

Yes. 1st trailer wet my appetite, this one gives me cravings!

His kid is terrible. Will Smith should stop trying to prop up his son's career. The kid has no charisma and can't act. Jeez...what a waste of a prime role. This could have gone to another kid who has the chops.

High hopes for this one:)

Actually I thought he was aright in Karate Kid. Not so much on Day the Earth Stood Still though - I just wanted to slap him (or rather his character)

Yes shamalabrrrakadaweekeedooyamayamayamayamayaaaaama appears to be making a comeback... Man how many times are we gonna fall for THAT?! Young money! Now as for lil will, I like him. As a fan of the old karate kid, I was astounded that a remake could surpass the original. "Surpass?!? Thou blasphemeth!!" you say, but I certify you brethren that as a geek I hate remakes. But who better to fill mr mayagi's shoes that he never wears indoors than Jackie chan? And not cuz his name's Jackie, just look at what that flawed theory did for nightmare on elm street! But I digress, the next point being china is more beautiful than America can ever dream to be, which leaves jaden smith. Younger blacker and cooler (I'm a black Cuban geek so I can say that), he amazed me. And we follow him through the cruel tutelage of Jackay, culminating in a broken legged (a style invented on the spot) back flip crane kick that put guile's flash kick to shame. And landed on the same foot he jumped and kicked with. I didn't even see Daniel San in my head, just Bruce, Jet, and of course Jackie. So I dvred both movies for my kids to watch. First the original. My 7 year old watched it. The remake? It had him, and my 5 and 3 year ols, enthralled, doing karate for days, like everytime I watched martial arts films. Which brings me to the title. It should have been the Kung fu kid. The only flaw. I hope this movie's good. The Smiths' presence can only help

Neither of them can "act" IMHO (but really, what do I know about "acting"). Smith Sr. does well what he does well and that's all. Smith Jr. hasn't done anything likable at all yet. But...there's a ray of hope after seeing this trailer. If I'm bored on a weekday night I may catch this in the theatre.

C R A P

After that its a bit patchy. I loved lady in th water though. Nevsr saw airbender. I do remain loyal though. I never got swept up in the backlash

So it's all a simulation right? Right?

I bet there's a twist ending and it's all a part of an elaborate training exercise for the kid. They never crashed after all.. I sure hope not..

whats with the accents?

Who here wants a Wild Wild West sequel say yay

I agree with a lot of what people on here are saying. There will be a huge twist, and that twist will be that it is all a training program for the kid.

And if that IS what this is, then it makes what we will watch completely pointless.

Oh, and the CGI looks very dated.

What do you call "Seven Pounds", "Pursuit of Happiness", "Six degrees of Separation", "Enemy of the State", and ofcourse "Ali"....... No thats definitely not quality acting right there

Spend a few moments on IMDB did ya? No, I don't care for his acting. He's been in some good films but his acting was not a highlight.

Note that I was expressing an opinion. I'm glad you expressed yours but I disagree. C'est la vie.

Okay so bad languge is frowned upon on this site... how about this... Jaden Smith is a talentless, spolit, conceited, obnoxious little toad who uses his daddy's success as an excuse to be the most arrogant adolescent in Hollywood (followed closely by his sister). The parents of this nasty little brat should be ashamed, I shall never watch anything this disgusting family produces.

Sometimes opinions go a bit too far. You can say you don't like Smith Sr., but you can't say he "can't act"....the man clearly has acting chops, as illustrated by Tim above. Perhaps you still see him in your mind's eye as the Fresh Prince?
Your opinion could also be that Eddie Van Halen is a crap guitar player, but your opinion would be wrong.

Fair enough. I could have stated that I did not care for his acting and left it at that. Clearly there are those that think differently and my post was not meant as a troll. At any rate I'm not turned off by this trailer and I may indeed catch it at the cinema. Perhaps Smith (maybe both?) will dazzle me this time...

As an as side, I don't care for Pacino's acting either. He either yells or he doesn't. Again, my opinion based on every film I've seen him in.

EVH still shreds on the guitar though. DLR ain't the singer he once was though, based on the concert last year.

No actually, no imdb needed. Im just a will smith fan. And in no way am i trying to accuse you of trolling. Will smith can act, but you are completely entitled to your impressions of the man.

To pick up on the Pacino thing, youre just kinda picking on the Pacino cliche with that one. Its an overused joke/exaggeration. Now his actinghas definitrly declined over the years for sure. Early pacino is much much much better...
