Doomsday trailer released

Neil Marshall's Doomsday is a film very much marked to watch in our view - and now the trailer has been released...
Published on Jan 17, 2008
Considering he’s made just a couple of films so far, it might seem a little over the top to greet footage of a new Neil Marshall movie with a post of its own, a YouTube clip and general excitement.
But consider this: while Marshall’s breakthrough was the fun-but-not-classic Dog Soldiers, his second film was, in the view of many, one of the downright scariest pieces of cinema seen in recent times. And what’s more it was British. We’re talking, of course, about The Descent, which if you haven’t seen it yet is worth switching off the computer and making a little outing to Blockbuster for. Not everyone loves it, but those who do would recommend you watch it in the dark and make sure you’ve got someone to sit with afterwards. Potholing is a bad idea, too.
His new film, Doomsday, starts in modern day Britain, around the breakout of a deadly virus. If it sounds a bit 28 Days Later, then panic not, because things then shift forward a couple of decades. Which is where we’ll stop discussing the plot, because we hate it when people do that to us.
Doomsday is, surely, one of the more interesting science fiction/horror productions currently nearing release, not least because its director has been very heavily marked as one to watch out for. And while the trailer – replete with voiceover man seemingly having an off day – doesn’t get our juices flowing just yet, it doesn’t mean that Doomsday isn’t high on our radar.
Take a look at the trailer, and see what you think. Then join the debate in the Comments field below…
