The Dark Knight: here come the nipples

Sarah Dobbs

Sarah was excited about seeing The Dark Knight after the preview last week. Now... she's not so sure. Look at that thing!

Published on Dec 11, 2007

Hmmm. Okay, maybe it's just that the initial excitement has worn off, but I'm starting to worry about this movie now. New production stills are leaking out every day (and the Joker is still dropping all sorts of clues and hints over at WhySoSerious.com but we're still going to have to wait till July to see the movie - isn't it a little soon for the hype machine to be cranked up to this pitch?

And, more importantly, is it just me or is it all starting to look a little bit... rubbish?

This picture of Batman riding some kind of bizarre Lego bike just gives me Schumacher flashbacks. It looks like an action figure, honestly.

Maybe it's for the best that my expectations are being lowered, because otherwise by the time The Dark Knight was actually released it would have no option but to be disappointing. At the same time, though, I can't help feeling a bit disappointed right now. Those introductory few minutes looked so completely awesome that looking at this - that is totally a child's trike, just scaled up and painted black - makes me feel sad.

So much for the reboot. I can hear the toy companies rubbing their thighs with delight at this.

Well, the new Batmobile was a bit lame, too. so... let's not worry that much.

Not as lame as whatever the hell that is.

Having looked at the picture of the bike, I'm not too worried. Because it's just a bike. The Dark Knight could be the greatest movie ever made or the lamest piece of shit smeared across a screen in years, you'd still have a real job on your hands getting me to care what Batmans bike looks like. In fact, you could tie my missus up above a shark tank and slower lower her in whilst offering me the only can of shark repellent bat-spray in the world on the condition that I muster up some care about what Batmans bike looks like and it still might be a stretch too far for me.

The new batmobile looked like military tech of some kind, bridging the reality gap. That thing up there looks like it was designed to fit in vacuum-formed blisters in toys-r-us.

Hush your blasphemous mouths heathens! I remember seeing the new Batmobile and thinking it looked kind of rubbish, but when I saw it in the movie all was forgiven as it was used as a practical tank, rather than a shiny racer. This is just the bike equivalent and will no doubt have something practical to offer. Um... and the toy will look awesome on my shelf alongside Christian Bale's nipples.

I wish I could see you eat your words on that...The Batpod was introduced in an excellent, practical manner AND provided one of the best sequences in the film. Thats what you get for spouting off at the mouth at stills without context.
