First look: Karl Urban as Judge Dredd
Want to see what Mega City One’s finest law enforcer will look like in the upcoming movie, Dredd? Then take a look here…
Some of us in the land of Den Of Geek have a slight soft spot for Danny Cannon’s 1995 big budget take on Judge Dredd. Granted, Stallone and the helmet problem is one you kind of have to argue around, but it’s hard to call the film a disaster. It's not great, but there's still quite a lot in it.
Nonetheless, it did lose a good chunk of the spirit of the 2000AD comic strip, and the hope is that the new, incoming take on Judge Dredd will correct that.
For heading into production in the months ahead is Dredd, a brand new attempt to bring the character to the big screen, with Karl Urban wearing the infamous helmet. What’s more, he won’t be taking said helmet off, either.
Directed by Pete Travis and from a screenplay from Alex Garland, this Dredd certainly looks quite promising. And a new photo has been released which shows Karl Urban in rehearsal for the role.
The shot has come via Jock, Dredd artist and concept artist for the film. And the Dredd film? It’s due out in 2012. Urban’s looking quite smart here, for our money…
