Kicking off an irregular series of brainteasers on Den of Geek, just how well do you know your movie quotes?

Okay. There’s no prize. Let’s be up front on that score. But if you’re still reading, there is still the chance to have your brain worshipped on our site. Simply work your way through the 10 quotes below, tell us the movies they came from, and the answers will follow in a day or two, perhaps even with another quiz. All of these are from movies released in the UK during the 1990s – that may mean the odd film released in the US in late ’89 sneaks in on a technicality…


1    “I wouldn't live with you if the world were flooded with piss and you lived in a tree”

2    “Go back to Jersey, Sonny. This is the City of the Angels and you haven't got any wings”

3    “None of their testimony is gonna hold up in court, Chief. Hell all three of them have reputations as low as crocodile piss.”

4    “I mean look at her. It looks like she fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.”

5    “Back home, they put me in jail for what I'm doing. Here, they give me awards.”

6    “You can't expect him to live forever with his sister and the nipple-twisting that goes on there.”

7    “Why can't I be a Meg Ryan movie? Or even a good porno.”

8    “This film is only for Madagascar and Iran, neither of which follow American copyright law.”

9    “Well, there's the usual things: flowers... chocolates... promises you don't intend to keep...”

10    “Any man don't wanna get killed better clear on out the back.”

Each of these quotes comes from an American film, and you’re almost certain to have heard of them all. They’re, er, all in Simon’s DVD collection too. Good luck…
