The progress of Ghostbusters 3 is one we've been following with keen interest at Den Of Geek. A sequel to two much loved childhood favourites, we're quietly praying that director Ivan Reitman and writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky can turn in a better later day follow-up than George Lucas managed with the depressing Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.

Worryingly, Bill Murray has been extremely vocal about his opinion on the script as it stands, and there have been fears, particularly after his July interview with GQ magazine (which we wrote about here), that he won't appear in Ghostbusters 3 at all.

Nevertheless, the film's pre-production presses on, with news arriving this week, courtesy of Bloody Disgusting, about what we could possibly expect from the sequel's script. That a new, younger generation of Ghostbusters will join - or perhaps take over from - the original cast has been widely reported for some time, but it now appears that one of these fresh-faced busters will be none other than Oscar, the son of Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver).

Only an infant when we last saw him in Ghostbusters 2, Oscar will, in a neat link back to the earlier film, appear in Ghostbusters 3 as a 20-something member of the team.

There are also rumours that all four members of the Ghostbusters, which presumably includes Murray, will reprise their roles, and that the great Rick Moranis will be coming out of retirement to play Louis Tully.

None of this has been confirmed yet, of course, and with the film not yet in production, it could be some time before we'll know for definite whether it'll all come to pass. More Ghostbusters 3 news as we get it.
