Universal reschedules The Adjustment Bureau, Paul and others

Universal has shuffled its release schedule, with Philip K Dick-inspired The Adjustment Bureau heading back six months, and Simon Pegg in Paul arriving next March....

Universal has announced that it’s reshuffling its cinematic release schedule, with the major mover amongst its changes being the Matt Damon-starring The Adjustment Bureau.

The Adjustment Bureau is written and directed by George Nolfi (he worked on the Bourne scripts, too), and is based on a Philip K Dick story. Damon is starring alongside Emily Blunt, and the film was originally scheduled for US release on September 17th (it had previously been bumped to that slot too).

However, Universal has now announced that we won’t be seeing The Adjustment Bureau until March 4th 2011, roughly the same time period where it released Green Zone earlier this year, to underwhelming box office returns.

Elsewhere in the studio’s schedule shake-up is the M Night Shyamalan-produced Devil, a horror-thriller that’s been helmed by the Dowdle Brothers. Early whispers suggest, off the back of the reviews of The Last Airbender, that Shyamalan’s name may be taken off the posters. Nonetheless, it’s been bumped up the schedule to fill the slot left by The Adjustment Bureau, with a September 17th opening in the States.

Talking of names probably best left off the posters, The Brothers Strausse are back directing a film, after the effort that was Aliens vs Predator – Requiem. This time, they’ve put together a science fiction thriller by the name of Skyline, and that’s now due on November 12th. And the long-gathering-dust high school comedy Kids In America has been earmarked for December 3rd.

Sanctum 3D is next on the Universal slate, and it’s an underwater thriller that James Cameron has produced. That’s down for February 4th.

Finally, there’s one of our most looked forward to films of 2011: Paul. This has been penned by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who also star, with Adventureland’s Greg Mottola calling the shots behind the camera.

The cast for this one – about two comic-book geeks who find an alien outside Area 51 – includes the likes of Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver, Jane Lynch, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, the voice of Seth Rogen. And the movie itself has a US release date of March 18th 2011. We understand that the UK release is currently set for April 1st 2011.

More on all of those films as we get it, as well as UK release dates as we gleam them.
