Die Hard 5 to be a John McClane/Jack Bauer crossover?

Ryan Lambie

Rumours suggest that Die Hard 5 could star Bruce Willis and Kiefer Sutherland. And just what until you see what it might be called...

Published on Jun 11, 2010

The Hollywood rumour mill throws out some bizarre stories on occasions. Over the last day or two, an unnamed source told Aint It Cool News that the title for the fifth John McClane action saga would be, oddly, Die Hard 24/7.

The story goes that Bruce Willis was so inspired by Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables ("He went gaga for it," Sly reportedly said), that it has encouraged him to press on with a new Die Hard film with the harder edge of the earlier trilogy.

Now, further rumours have surfaced that Fox was considering making a John McClane/Jack Bauer crossover adventure, which explains the thinking process behind the curious/shit Die Hard 24/7 title.

It's a plausible story, and the thought of seeing Bauer and McClane's characters teaming up for a joint adventure is an appealing one, but is there any truth to behind the rumours? Only time will tell. More news on this as we get it.

Should that read "Just WAIT until you see what it might be called"?

C'mon Ryan, stop exaggerating the story. It was mooted a while ago but Kiefer Sutherland shot it down (with good reason) because both characters are fully developed in their own worlds, and wouldnt really suit each other. I am not really up for a good cop/bad cop routine from 2 franchises with different tones, and the makers know that. One of the characters (if not both) would undoubtedly be cheapened.

Yes, gudge, the makers take your feelings into consideration when they make films. Although I do agree. It's not going to happen.

This willl never happen. The execs would never allow it as it would dilute earnings and that would be an insult to their creed.

Die Hard 5 starring Kiefer I can handle. Die Hard 5 starring Jack Bauer, and, well, Die Hard will have hit Season 6 levels of rubbishness.

Sounds really weird and unlikely, but then again; Hollywood is also busy making movies based on board games and Rollercoaster Tycoon, who knows how this rumour will turn out...

I would die of happiness if this came to be.

That would be a horrible idea. They are both capable of carrying their own movie. Pairing up McClane hasn't help his last two outings. Jack just needs Chloe at the computer. Jack doesn't do tongue-in-cheek. He's straight up tough. Nothing to discuss.

first: the die hard franchise is the greatest thing to happen to film since sound second: it would be a travesty to involve any kind of crossover to it. third: jack bauer should have never seen season 2 much less the silver screen

Cmon writer. If you ever thought this might actually be a remote possibility then you shouldn't be writing for anyone. Bauer and McClaine are stand alone characters. No need to go into detail b/c anyone who has seen 24 or the die hard movies knows this. & to profit. Lol Bauer "shouldn't of made it past season 2" LOL! bauer made it 8 seasons at 24 hrs a seasons. Could you ever enjoy watching John mclaine for 192 hours? i think not. but every ep of 24 was spectacular.
