Now that Jack Bauer has left our TV screens, what’s the status of the 24 movie?
Published on May 26, 2010
Now that the television adventures of Jack Bauer have finally come a close - and you can read our review of the finale here - attention inevitably turns to the mooted 24 movie. The latest on this was that Billy Ray had penned a screenplay, and that the film would take Jack Bauer to Europe. But given the way that the narrative for the end of the series went, changes, it seems, are being made.
Over at Entertainment Weekly, producer Howard Gordon has given an update on the state of the 24 movie, and by the sounds of it, it may still be a little way off. Gordon confirms that it won't be a prequel story, and that "the movie has to defer to the end of the TV show, not the other way around".
That seems to suggest, as one or two others have mooted, that the earlier script wouldn't necessarily fit when taking into account the direction that the TV show ultimately went.
Gordon also noted, "There is a draft that is in. No one is in a position right now to know when or what the movie will be, exactly. Now that the TV show is over, the movie will be its own thing."
Expect the script work to accelerate over the coming weeks, as we suspect all concerned will want to get the film moving while the proverbial iron is still just a little bit hot.
Here's the piece at EW, and do be warned that it contains spoilers if you've not seen the ending of 24.
