Whats the point of having Jonah on the poster and then hiding the facial feature he's known for?! Will just watch the short on the new animated Batman movie instead, esp as they've just announced Linda Hamilton's doing a voice :)

If you go to comicbookmovie.com you'll find there's a small snippet from the Syfy channel from the movie as well as an early review that didn't hold up well at all. I am a Jonah Hex fan, but this film is horrible and a rush job, which is a brutal shame. By giving Jonah Hex a minor grease burned face, all DC/WB has done is turn this into a modern day "Hang 'em High" just because the studio was worried they might offend people (even though they weren't worried when they put Harvey "Two-Face" Dent in The Dark Knight). The point in the comics is he's SO hideous people can hardly look at him, much less offer him a job bringing the bad guys to justice, yet people are so desperate that they do. This film is just a campy nightmare for fans and is bound to fail miserably, which is a shame. Warner Bros. could totally make a fantastically epic modern western with sci-fi undertones from the source material.

I hate to say this but I think we have a huge turkey here, which is a pity as the initial premise sounded quite interesting. I just hope Jon Favreau's proposed 'Cowboys & Aliens' wont face a similar fate.

Jonah Hex: new poster and early reactions

Simon Brew

It might be that we’ve found the duffer of the year if early reactions to Jonah Hex are anything to go by. We’ve got a new poster for it too…

Uh-oh. All does not seem to be going well in the world of Jonah Hex.

Besieged by news of reshoots earlier in the year, very little has actually been seen of the film, which, given how we're being bludgeoned to death with footage from pretty much every other summer release, is something of a worry. Jonah Hex, after all, is heading into US cinemas in June, and the first trailer for the film isn't even arriving until tomorrow. All we've really seen of it are some stills of Josh Brolin, and photos of Megan Fox.

Furthermore, there's more troubling news in the form of early screening reactions. For they have not been positive. The first alarm bell comes in the form of the film's running time, which appears to be a mere 80 minutes. That, in itself, isn't a problem, of course, but when a major blockbuster falls shy of the 85-90 minute mark - name the last one to do it - then you sense that scissors have been heavily at work.

Then there are the reactions going up at Ain't It Cool News. The site has several reports from a test screening of an unfinished cut of the film, and the reactions have been brutal.

"Even with low expectations this film was a complete and utter mess," writes one reviewer. "I can tolerate a mediocre plot as long as I'm not bored out of my skull, but Jonah Hex meanders aimlessly for the majority of its runtime," says the next, while another argues that "Sadly, there's no fixing this one. The problems are deeply rooted, and can't be solved with an edit. Massive reshoots would be required, and that's not going to happen before the 18th of June."

There's not a positive review in the bunch of them. Check them out here if you don't believe us.

Things aren't really helped by the release of the new poster for the film either. Appreciating the usual rule of you can't judge a film by a bit of promo art, you still have to conclude that it does little good in trying to sell the thing. ‘Revenge gets ugly' doesn't mean a fat lot, while that font? Hmmm. Not the best piece of work. You can see it in its full glory at Yahoo! here.

Check back later this week when we'll have the Jonah Hex trailer. And then US moviegoers can see the finished film on 18th June. There's no fixed UK date yet that we can find.
