Terry Pratchett's Going Postal trailer

A two-part telemovie heading to our screens in May, here's the trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Going Postal...

Published on Apr 19, 2010

Following on from the excellent TV adaptations of Terry Pratchett's Hogfather and The Colour Of Magic, another hugely popular Discworld novel is soon to be aired on Sky 1. Screening at the end of May, the next adaptation will be based upon Sir Pratchett's 33rd book in the Discworld series, Going Postal.

Starring Richard Coyle, (whom we're especially pleased to see return to telly in a big way in this production, as he was this writer's personal favourite nominee for Doctor Who back when we were all guessing and fancying actors' chances) the story revolves around Moist Von Lipwig (Coyle), a con artist set to hang for his crimes in the Discworld city-state of Ankh-Morpork. Saved from his grizzly fate, he's recruited to manage the now decrepit Ankh-Morpork postal service. This is a task made all the more difficult by Lipwig's new arch enemy, rival postie Reacher Gilt (David Suchet).

As you may expect, there's a little more to the Ankh-Morpork postal service than worrying about the wrong number of stamps, and as well as competing with his villianous rival, Lipwig also has to deal with love interest Adora Belle Dearheart (Clair Foy). (You've got to love these character names. It's like Roald Dahl for the slightly more matured.)

If the two-part movie adaptation of Going Postal is anything close to approaching the production values and quality of Hogfather and The Colour Of Magic, then we should have something very special to look forward to, and with such a stellar cast, also including the likes of Charles Dance, Steve Pemberton, Timothy West and Andrew Sachs, it's looking very likely.

Have a look at the trailer and see what you think and we'll let you know the broadcast details as they come to light...

Going Postal is one of my favourite Discworld of all (and the follow-up is great too). Really hoping they get the blend right for this. I thought they almost had it with Hogfather.

I didn't hate the Hogfather and Colour of Magic, but both suffered from some very variable acting and seemed to be missing something, some level of commitment maybe. The trailer aboive looks like a real step up though. Excellent stuff.

@Bassthang - LOL I saw that headline and said "Who's David Jason going to be playing this time?" I hope they do this one justice, it is one of my favourites too. I'm not really seeing David Suchet for Reacher Gilt - he's supposed to be a big man who looks like a pirate! I'll watch it no matter what though! :o)

I'm looking forward to this. Just finished 'Making Money' actually (the second Von Lipwig book. I think...) As for the others, I liked The Hogfather, but I found my attention slipping with The 'Colour Of Magic'. It felt a bit all over the place, if that makes sense. I'd like to give it another go though.
