Captain America casting latest

Captain America still hasn’t been cast, and yet more names are being thrown into the mix. Here’s the latest update…

And still the Captain America casting process is ongoing, and still it seems to be one of the most-reported hunts for a leading star we can remember. Over the past weeks a host of names have been linked with the title role in Marvel’s The First Avenger: Captain America, with the likes of Chris Evans (Fantastic Four) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy) among those left on the shortlist.
And now? We’re hearing a few more names. Deadline Hollywood has revealed that Channing Tatum, who starred in G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra and Dear John, has been invited to try out for the part. Furthermore, it’s also thrown up the name of Wilson Bethel, from the TV series Generation Kill.
Hitfix, meanwhile, has revealed that Ryan Phillippe is very much in the running for the part, too.
There’s also, incidentally, casting work for the role of Peggy, the female lead in the film. Emily Blunt is believed to be very much in the running, along with perhaps Alice Eve. Keira Knightley’s name has been linked, but we’d be surprised if she snagged the role, or perhaps even wanted it.
Marvel is believed to be keen to wrap the casting up by the end of the month, and as such, an announcement should finally be arriving in the next couple of weeks. Then, director Joe Johnston can finally get cracking on making the film itself, which is set for release in summer 2011.
We'll, of course, keep you posted.
