Sam Worthington signs up for Dan Dare movie?
Simon Brew
Dan Dare, the pilot of the future, could be looking a lot like Sam Worthington if the latest stories are to be believed…
Published on Mar 15, 2010
The prolific Mr Sam Worthington has added another movie to his slate, according to the website Pajiba.com. For it's reporting that he's signed up to play Dan Dare in the long-mooted movie based on the Eagle comic strip.
Frank Hampson's creation has been fighting to save the world on and off since 1950, and the rights to Dare were acquired by Virgin Comics a few years ago. One part of the masterplan to revive the character was to investigate a movie version, and Warner Bros has now reportedly stepped in and stumped up the cash. The signing up of Sam Worthington in the title role is the first sign that the production itself is being ramped up the priority list.
The site reports that there's no writer or director on-board at this stage, but it describes it as a "priority project" for Warner Bros.
Official confirmation, of course, hasn't yet been forthcoming, but we'll keep you posted when we hear more.
