Odeon chain agrees to screen Alice In Wonderland after all

Reversing its originally-stated position, you will now be able to see Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland at your local Odeon.

Chalk one point up for Disney, then. Over the past couple of weeks, the Odeon chain has been on a collision course with the studio over the decision to shorten the theatrical window for Alice In Wonderland to 12 weeks, instead of the usual 17. Odeon originally stood toe-to-toe with Vue and Cineworld on the matter, but the latter pair – after discussions with Disney – reportedly agreed to 13-week window instead.
Odeon, the UK’s largest cinema chain, appeared to be standing firm, however, in spite of hosting the world premiere for the film at its Leicester Square cinema in London. Yet the chain has since announced that – following discussions of its own with the House of Mouse – it will be showing Alice In Wonderland after all. That should do the film’s box office no harm, not least because Odeon owns a substantial number of the UK’s 3D screens.
The Odeon chain released the following statement:
“The Odeon and UCI Cinema Group is pleased to announce that, following detailed negotiations with the Walt Disney Company Ltd, an enduring agreement has been reached encompassing all the different aspects of both companies’ commercial relationship.”
Which is basically PR bullshit for Disney won this one from where we’re sitting.
Feel free to get booking your Alice In Wonderland tickets at your Odeon, then, and expect our review of the film just as soon as we’re allowed to put it live…
