James Cameron tells the world when they can expect Avatar on DVD and Blu-ray, and when the 3D version is coming too…
Published on Feb 19, 2010
Over at The Wall Street Journal, James Cameron has confirmed that the DVD and Blu-ray release of Avatar has been set for Earth Day, which is Thursday April 22nd. This is for the initial release of the film on disc, and while that's only the date for the US right now, we'd anticipate a global roll-out on the same day.
Furthermore, Cameron has also confirmed that another DVD and Blu-ray version will be rolling around in November. The April release will be extras-light, it seems, while a "value-added DVD" and "3-D Blu-ray" will be coming in November. Fox has since come along and said that the 3D Blu-ray won't be out then, because "3-D is in the conceptual stage". Fox hasn't confirmed those dates either, but we'd kind of assume that Cameron is the daddy on this one right now.
In the same article, he also reveals of Avatar 2 that he wants it to be "faster and cheaper", and a "continuation of the same characters. We're going to widen the universe in quotes, meaning the envelope of the setting of the story".
