John Hughes tribute planned at Oscars
Simon Brew
The late, great John Hughes is to be honoured with a special tribute as part of this year’s Oscar show…

It's been revealed that at the upcoming Academy Awards, a special tribute is being planned to mark the work of the late, great John Hughes. The pair hosting the Oscars, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, both worked with Hughes in the past, and it's also suggested that many of the cast members who featured in his films over the years will be taking part.
This is a lovely move. Usually, the Oscar show simply features a reel of faces of those in the film business who have passed on in the previous 12 months. It's always a bizarre part of the show too, given that the level of applause each face on the screen gets depends purely on the level of recognition of the person concerned.
It's fitting, then, that Hughes - a man whose impact on 80s moviemaking, with ramifications since, is hard to begin to measure - should get a special tribute of his own. Here's hoping they do the man proud.
