Weekend At Bernie’s set to return?

Simon Brew

Heading back from the 80s, a third Weekend At Bernie’s movie is apparently in the offing…

Crikey, here's one we never expected to see again. After Weekend At Bernie's 2 had pretty much done its damnedest to kill any chance of a long-running franchise, it was assumed - with good reason - that this was one series that was utterly done and dusted. It was as dead as Bernie himself, if you like.

But fast forward to the present day, and electric paddles are being applied to the corpse of the series. For Gladden Entertainment, the company that's also trying to revive the Mannequin films, is working on a brand new Weekend At Bernie's. According to Moviehole, it's looking like a remake of sorts, inevitably one with a new cast. Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman, we'd guess, are at best down for cameo roles.

There's no time scale on the project, nor is it clear whether MGM will be back involved (and given the studio's current financial plight, we wouldn't expect any kind of decision for some time). But it seems the plan is to get the new film moving ahead relatively quickly.

Here's the story at Moviehole.

It would have to be remake. Doubt they could get away with passing off what was left of Bernie as being alive.

You teaser, I almost jumped to the ceiling reading that headline! Too bad they go the reboot route, an already pispoor remake of that classic. I would have paid TOP DOLLAR for Weekend At Bernie's 3, preferably in 3D: Bernie rules!!
