Midnight Run 2 on the way?

Here's a very welcome story we didn't expect to see: Midnight Run is getting a full sequel...
Published on Jan 26, 2010
It's a quick story, but a good one. According to Deadline Hollywood, plans are afoot for a sequel to the sublime 80s action comedy, Midnight Run. The original starred Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin, and was directed by Martin Brest (of Beverly Hills Cop and, er, Gigli fame). It has a case for being one of the best blockbusters of the 1980s, too. We'd welcome that debate, if only for an excuse to watch Midnight Run again.
The story of a potential sequel was buried in the midst of a story about actor Robert De Niro switching agents. The key passage in the story, when talking about the deals that De Niro has benefitted from in the past few years, reads:
"That included the big payday for the 3rd Fockers installment which WME put together, the movies Stone with Edward Norton and Machete with Robert Rodriguez, as well as Another Night In Suck City for Focus Features with Paul Weitz directing, a showy role playing Gov George Wallace in Precious director Lee Daniels' next pic about desegregation, plus mid-development on another Midnight Run, and other film projects."
That's all we know about the film thus far. But given that we didn't even know it existed until today, we'll take the words "mid-development" as very promising. We know not whether Mr Grodin is involved, therefore, but it wouldn't be much of a film without him...
