Why did Van Damme turn Stallone down? What’s Tim Burton up to next? And are they really remaking Mannequin…!?

The last time we did this it seemed to go down reasonably well, so here's a quick digest of stories you might have missed over the past few days...
* Production has started on Summit Entertainment's adaptation of the Warren Ellis graphic novel, Red. The film is shooting with Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Richard Dreyfus, Brian Cox, Karl Urban and Ernest Borgnine on board, and is set for release on October 22nd. Robert Schwentke is directing.
* Tim Burton, once he's done and dusted with Alice In Wonderland, could be turning to Sleeping Beauty next. It seems the director is keen to tell the story from the point of view of Maleficent. It's not definite that it's the film he'll do next, but it's a distinct possibility.
* One action star who didn't opt to join in with the fun of Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables was Jean-Claude Van Damme. But why? It seems that JCVD wasn't keen on the idea of just turning up to have a fight, and wanted a proper character and everything. Jean-Claude for Hamlet, say we...
* Summit Entertainment is looking to push ahead with a TV version of the underwhelming movie Push. None of the film's cast are expected to jump aboard the small screen version.
* Charlize Theron appears to be off George Miller's fourth Mad Max movie, Fury Road. Instead, Teresa Palmer, from Adam Sandler vehicle Bedtime Stories, is set to step in. Mel Gibson won't be getting a cameo, either.
* Moviehole reports that the latest film to get the remake treatment is the 80s ‘classic' Mannequin. You can read about that here.
