Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides heads to Hawaii in the summer – and it turns out director Rob Marshall wasn’t necessarily the first choice…
Published on Jan 20, 2010
Given that Disney is planned to release its next Pirates Of The Caribbean film, On Stranger Tides, on May 20th 2011, it's no surprise that the movie will be going before the cameras this summer. Still, it's now been confirmed that the film will be shooting on the islands of O'ahu and Kaua'i in the Hawaii area over the summer period, as Johnny Depp once more steps into the shoes of Captain Jack Sparrow.
The press release that's been issued by the Governor of Hawaii also firmly confirms, and there had been minor doubts in recent weeks, that Rob Marshall is directing the film, from a screenplay by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. In recent days, it's been revealed that Marshall wasn't the first choice, as, apparently, the Hughes Brothers, whose latest - The Book Of Eli - is riding high at the box office, turned down the job. Apparently, according to the story at MTV, Johnny Depp was keen to get the pair involved, but they ultimately decided to pass.
Interestingly, the only member of the cast who's thus far being confirmed as coming back on board is Depp himself. Given that the characters played by Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom had long outstayed their welcome come the end of the first trilogy of films, it's no disaster if they fall by the wayside. We'd expect to see some firm announcements about who's joining the summer retreat to Hawaii in the next few weeks...
