Paranormal Activity 2 moving ahead, Saw VI director on board
Simon Brew
Sadly, you read that headline right. There’s a Paranormal Activity sequel coming later this year, and the director of Saw VI is on board…

Uh-oh. Clearly the lessons of The Blair Witch Project are yet to be digested, as Paramount is to go ahead with a sequel to its sleeper hit Paranormal Activity, and it's rushing it into cinemas for October. Who could turn around a horror film in such a short space of time, you might wonder? They're not going to get one of the Saw team in, are they?
Er, yes. That appears to be the plan.
The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Paramount has recruited writer Michael R Perry and Saw VI director Kevin Gretert to come up with the follow-up, and it's going to be released on October 22nd. Yep, that's the same day as Saw VII. Seems like Paramount is keen to replicate the kind of juggernaut that Lionsgate has benefitted from for over a decade. It's the same principle, too. After all, it's often forgotten that the original Saw movie was a low budget delight, and one that feels very far removed from some of the terrible sequels that followed.
We don't want to prejudge where Paranormal Activity 2 is going to head, and sincerely hope that it doesn't make the same mistakes. But the signs don't look good. The brains behind the first film, Jason Blum and Oren Peli, are both on board the sequel in producer capacity. Peli is quoted as saying, "These guys get it, and the fans won't be disappointed."
We hope he's right. But we've got alarm bells blaring all over the place.
Here's the story.
