HD latest: Further proof that Michael Bay is a tit
Simon Brew
One sidestory to this week's saga of the HD DVD/Blu-ray format war is director Michael Bay basing his decision to make a Transformers sequel around it. Full story right here...

Back to the original story we posted earlier this week regarding Paramount’s decision to go HD DVD exclusive - again, it's here if you missed it - one hilarious little episode that came out of it was Michael Bay’s rattle going out of his pram. Now this writer, on the whole, quite likes Michael Bay films (well, The Rock and Armageddon, anyway), but there’s little doubting that his leering, unsubtle directional style means he’ll always be restricted to being an action director for hire. With added special effects, natch.
Anyroad, upon hearing of the decision by Paramount to make Transformers HD DVD exclusive, the rattles promptly left the pram, as he posted on his personal blog: “I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!”
In spite of some HD DVD-loving, Transformers-movie hating fans calling this a double result, Bay then, er, retracted his comments just a day later. “As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision. So today I saw 300 on HD, it rocks! So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!”
So, er, that’s okay then.
Phew.
Incidentally, if this is how he decides what movies to make, wouldn’t it just make more sense to get some darts?

"They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!”
How is two formats progressive again? Other than progressively enlarging the studio's bottom line, I mean.

Michael Bay seemingly is making Transformers 2 now. That's a relief.
