First trailer for The Karate Kid remake
Simon Brew
The Karate Kid remake, starring Jackie Chan and Will Smith's son, gets its very first trailer...
Published on Dec 23, 2009
If you're one of those who isn't warming to the idea of a remake/reimagining/new version of The Karate Kid, then it's fair to say that this first trailer for it isn't going to set your heart fluttering.
But here it is anyway. This is the first proper glimpse we've had of the new film, and we're going to be leaving the opinion and commenting on this one to you again. All we'll say is this: it looks, inevitably, very different from the version we remember and love...
The film is out next June...

Well, I've seen worse trailers than this one. I'm just wondering at what point they rename that film into "the Kung-Fu Kid". Correct me, if I'm wrong, but this is mos def no karate...

TheTeacher you are correct, Kung-Fu and Jackie Chan are Chinese, so I'm waiting for some snappy line of dialogue where Jackie corrects the brat "Not Karate, Kung Fu..."

I'm in. It looks almost like a regular karate/kung fu/martial arts flick. And hey, since when is training on the Great Wall obligatory? I've never seen it in a martial arts flick and I've seen lots. Personally, I think it's a nice touch. Besides, like Smokestoomuch, I miss Mr. Chan. And, also, would welcome someone correcting him from "karate" to "kung fu". Especially, since I've heard Mr. Chan use the phrase to describe his style. Anyway, yes, I'm prepared to enjoy this one...maybe even with my kids.

And, why didn't they call it, "Karate Kid--The Next Generation"? Ok, maybe not......Well, they should have Mr. Chan referring to Mr. Morita as his dad/uncle/brother/sifu, or something. At least a nod....
