Lord Of The Rings trilogy arrives on Blu-ray in April

Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings films finally get their Blu-ray release date, although it’s just the theatrical cuts for now…
Published on Dec 15, 2009
If all had gone to plan, we'd be sat down watching The Lord Of The Rings trilogy in high definition right about now. The films were originally planned for Blu-ray release this winter, but were delayed. The sheer number of major high definition releases in the last couple of months can't have helped.
Anyway, in the US, Warner Bros has now confirmed that The Lord Of The Rings trilogy will arrive on Blu-ray from 6th April 2010. It's going to be a six-disc set, boasting around seven hours of special features. Those features look to be a straight port across from the DVD releases of the films.
The set will be containing the theatrical cuts of the films, rather than the extended versions. The longer versions of the film are expected to arrive on Blu-ray around the release of the first Hobbit movie at the end of 2011.
Warner Bros has also confirmed that the week after, on April 13th, it'll also be bringing Ralph Bakshi's animated take on Lord Of The Rings to Blu-ray.
