The Wolfman gets R rating in US

Universal doesn’t seem to have toned down The Wolfman, as the film gets a grown-up rating…

Universal will, we suspect, be glad to finally get The Wolfman out of the door, when the studio releases the film on February 12th. You probably know the story by now, of the ever-changing release date and rumoured problems with the film, but the Benicio Del Toro-starring project is now seemingly finished, and has its US rating locked too.

What's more, Universal has been publicising the fact that The Wolfman has been given an R rating. Granted, half of us expected it to go for the more commercial-friendly PG-13, but we can only hope and assume that the studio has kept the gore and horror we'd expect from a Wolfman movie in the final cut.

Directed by Joe Johnston, and also starring Anthony Hopkins, the film has been given an R rating for "bloody horror, violence and gore". A Valentine's Day treat it might just be...

A PG-13 rating could've been the proverbial nail in the coffin in the eyes of the film's target audience, since there's been enough bad buzz already. At least now people will still be curious to see whether it will be good. Let's hope so.
