Chris Pine will be the new Jack Ryan

Jack Ryan is returning in the guise of Chris Pine. But there's no Tom Clancy book in sight...

Paramount is, as reported earlier this year, pushing ahead with yet another reboot of the Jack Ryan series of movies. And stepping into the shoes previously worn by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and The Affleck will be none other than Captain Kirk himself, Chris Pine. Given that he'll be at the head of two of the studio's biggest franchises, it might be wise for Paramount to buy Pine a bungalow on its back lot at this rate.
The film itself isn't coming along at quite the speed we originally thought, but at the press conference for Clint Eastwood's Invictus, producer Mace Neufeld did reveal one or two new details about Jack Ryan 5.
Firstly, it's not going to be based on a Tom Clancy book. Instead, the film is a new screenplay that's been put together firstly by Hossein Amini and then Adam Koxac. And secondly, Neufeld also confirmed that the film will kick off with Ryan on Wall Street, rather than in the usual Washington corridors of power.
Finally, Neufeld also confirmed that Paramount had approached him asking to restart the franchise with a younger actor in the lead role, and also that he's got no firm date as to when production will start.
Here's the more detailed breakdown, courtesy of Collider, of the press conference.
