Dawn Treader will translate to film much more easily than Prince Caspian. Hopefully, the makers of this one have been smart enough to focus on Eustace and his transformation from brat to good kid (rather than oooh, Caspian, he's a hottie!); the theme of redemption in the book is too central and the movie will greatly suffer without it. And Silver Chair has absolutely no hope if we don't really care about Eustace going in.

The Chronicles Of Narnia: new pictures and news round up

The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader wraps production, but plans for Narnia 4 are notable by their absence…

For a while, it looked as if The Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader was the sequel that wasn't going to happen. Given that the second film - Prince Caspian - made less money than The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, and given that they're not cheap movies to make, Disney bailed from the franchise, putting the third film in jeopardy. Enter stage left Fox, who injected the necessary moolah to bring Narnia back to the big screen.

In the last week or two, The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader, which is being directed by Michael Apted, wrapped production. It's still a year away from release, but nonetheless, the event was marked with the release of a couple of pictures from the movie on Facebook. It's the modern way, y'know.

Right now, however, it seems there are no plans to move on to a fourth Narnia film, as presumably all concerned will be keen to see how this one pans out. If the numbers drop from Prince Caspian, then it's fair to suggest that Voyage Treader may be the last Narnia film we get. And given that it's going to toe-to-toe with the penultimate Harry Potter film next year, its success is far from guaranteed...

The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader will be released in December 2010.
