Saw 7 dated, 3D confirmed

The Saw franchise moves into 3D and brings in the director of, er, Saw V as it bids to turn its fortunes around…

The notable drop in box office revenue for the last Saw film hasn't proved to be any discouragement for Lionsgate in readying the seventh film in the series. The project was previously announced, but now ShockTillYouDrop has confirmed that Saw VII will be arriving on October 22nd 2010, and that the franchise will move into 3D for the first time.
This could well be a pivotal release for the series, too. Even though the films only cost around $10m each to make, Saw VI's US box office total currently sits at $26m, against $56m for Saw V. Now granted, the film is easily in profit, especially when the international box office take and DVD sales are taken into account, but it's nonetheless a sizeable drop for the series. And if it continues to fall at the same rate, then it's no longer guaranteed that Saw VIII will be heading into cinemas in October 2011.
Saw VII, incidentally, is going to be directed by David Hackl, who helmed the fifth film in the series. Hmmm.

Is there room for one more on the Saw merry-go-round?
