Thor has found his father, as Anthony Hopkins steps up to play Odin in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming movie…
Published on Oct 30, 2009
The upcoming Thor movie has finally found its Odin, with it now being confirmed that Anthony Hopkins is taking on the role. Now don't get us wrong: we like Anthony Hopkins. But we wanted Brian Blessed to play Odin, and he shall forever own the role in our dream version of the cast. But, alas, this is a case of not to be.
Hopkins' involvement in the project was revealed at The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog, where it's said that he's "in negotiations" to play the role. However, we've never known a high profile part such as this one to go to another actor once the words "in negotiations" crop up.
The film is set to start shooting in the next couple of months, under the stewardship of director Kenneth Branagh. Much of the rest of the cast has been in place for some time already, with Chris Hemsworth long confirmed in the title role, along with Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
