Spider-Man 4: Dylan Baker returning

Dylan Baker has confirmed that he’ll be back on board for Spider-Man 4 – but will he be The Lizard?

Published on Oct 23, 2009

With shooting on the fourth Spider-Man movie set to begin next March, more parts of the casting jigsaw are moving into place. The latest name to definitely be returning is Dylan Baker, who has played Dr Curt Connors in the last two films, and will now be on board for the fourth.

This is intriguing, of course, because the fate of Connors is to turn into The Lizard at some point, but it's unclear as of yet whether that's going to happen in the fourth film, or be held back for Spider-Man 5 or 6 (Baker seems to be slightly downplaying the chances of the former). It's surely fair to assume that at some stage Baker will assume the mantle of the supervillain, but Sam Raimi and co have kept the character bubbling around in the background for three films to date, and you wouldn't wager against a fourth.

Baker confirmed his involvement with the film in a Q&A following a screening of his new film, Trick'r Treat, in New York. The fine people at UGO have a report of it here.

Spider-Man 4 will be released on May 5th 2011.

I really hope Spiderman 4 is good. I loved the 2nd, but hated the third. Also, I really enjoyed Trick R Treat. Really silly horror film in the vein of Tales From The Crypt and Creepshow

What would be great is if they take a unified approach to plotting the next three movies if they know they are going to happen. That way they could have a whole slew of characters weaving in and out of Spideys life that are going to have an impact in later movies. As well Dr Connors, there's Felicia Hardy, Electro, Gwen Stacy (although her big moment was wasted in the first movie, would've made a great second act to a trilogy) and many others. Maybe they could introduce the slow build up of the sinister six for the sixth movie!! That would be a marketers dream!

I enjoyed the third film, even though it had way too much going on. Venom should have been left out I think. Here's hoping that the next film does not go overboard on villains and supporting characters.

I think that they should have Doc Connors and Parker work on the serum that turns him into the Lizard in the 4th film. Have the old 'This could take away my spider powers forever' dilemma while setting up the Lizard for a future installment

I forgot...Spider-Man 3 was decent right up until the dance number. After that, it's about as solid as X-Men 3.

I think Raimi is a smart enough director to learn from his/studios mistakes. I'm thinking anymore Spider-man movies he is involved with will be good if not great.
