Buzz Lightyear and Woody are heading for a new home, as the first trailer for Toy Story 3 arrives online…

"Come on. Let's see how much we're going for on eBay."
The chequered history of Toy Story 3 has seen the project become one of the central components of the struggle between Disney and Pixar that ultimately saw the two become the one company. When that happened, the Disney-developed Toy Story 3 was binned, and Pixar set to work on a proper sequel of its own. That sequel is now less than a year away.
I always thought that the weakest part of the first Toy Story movie was the humans themselves, that simply didn't seem to fit as well with the rest of the film. Here, though, we get to see a grown-up Andy, the owner of the toys we've watched over two movies, and he looks much better, a real testament to the advances made in computer animation over the past decade and a half. In fact, the whole trailer is gleaming with quality.
Toy Story 3, anyway, tells the story of when Andy has grown up and no longer needs his box of old toys. Thus, they all get shipped off to a day care centre instead. And while the trailer covers the first part of the story, it doesn't tell us too much else, short of to demonstrate that the film is shaping up exceptionally well, and that few companies can cut a trailer, yet alone film, to match the quality of Pixar.
Take a look at the trailer below, and then count down the days until June 18th 2010 in the US, or 23rd July 2010 in the UK...
And Slinky Dog is now added to the character poster collection, too!
