English cleric and author Charles Caleb Colton said imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. That may well be, but we're still slightly to strongly sensitive about the snatching of our homegrown programmes, and reception of their Stateside reincarnations has been mixed on both shores.

Sometimes a show's been lost in translation (Men Behaving Badly) and other times the accent's been changed to excellent effect (The Office). You can witness for yourself which way one of the latest acts of flattery has gone when Life On Mars (US) plays to its most critical audience tonight at 10:00 on FX with opener, Out Here In The Fields.

Stargate Universe fired up last week premiering with two parts of Air (reviewed here), which has seen extreme opposing reactions from DOG visitors and other viewers. But the third part of the three part opener may well make a big difference and swing opinion one way or the other. What may be a critical third of the SGU 3-parter pie airs on Sky1 on Tuesday, 13th October at 8:00pm and we'll be anxious to see if it can bring detractors together onboard the Destiny or if previously interested parties abandon ship.

Lovers of animation will want to tune in to ITV on Sunday 11th October at 10:15pm. The South Bank Show will focus on animation giants Disney and Pixar with an historic look at the industry's beginnings and production stages of current projects such as The Princess And The Frog (you can see some of those stages in the first five minutes of the film here) and Up.

It's rare that one of our favourite contraptions, the telly, features another favourite, the computer. We were treated to Micro Men last night (reviewed here) and fast on its heels comes Podfather on BBC4 at 9:00pm on Monday 12th October (with repeat airings late nights and earlier mornings over the next few days). This time the spotlight is on Robert Noyce, co-creator of the microchip that dreams and machines were made of. And if you missed the affectionate look at the Sinclair and Acorn rise, race and rivalry, that's being shown again on Saturday, the 10th October at 10:00pm on BBC4.

The Sarah Jane Adventures returns for its third season on Thursday 15th October at 4:35pm on BBC1. We have some pictures here and here that show what's in store. So, 9 to 5ers, try to get home early and start training those kiddies to love all things Whoish.

If it's been a rough week and you've gone chuckle-less for far too long there's 30 Rock's third season opener tonight at 10:30pm on FX (with another chance to get in on the ground floor of Rockefeller Center on Sunday the 11th at 1:20am and 7:30pm). And fans of Flight Of The Conchords who are partial to the boys' first - and best - season can relive the magic and drag friends in to experience Bret and Jemaine's life and lyrics on BBC 4, Wednesday, 14th October at 10:00pm.

If you want to send your comedy quota right off the scale there's also Curb Your Enthusiasm's seventh series start, Funkhouser's Crazy Sister, on Monday 12 October at 12:10am and Thursday the 15th at 10:55pm on More4.
