NBC hit Heroes, was yesterday confirmed as Spock in the next Star
Trek movie, slated to hit screens in 2008.
He won't be the only Spock on-screen either. The same panel, hosted by Trek XI producer and Lost creator JJ Abrams, announced that Leonard Nimoy will return as a crumbly version of the half Vulcan science officer.
"People have asked me why I've been doing this movie," said Nimoy, making a surprise appearance at the San Diego convention, "We have a great director and a wonderful actor, and the answer is: "it was logical." By the way, I should mention, a fabulous script, this is really going to be a great movie, and I mean that".
Nimoy's appearance is an about-turn. He announced his retirement from acting in 2002, carving out a new niche as a photographer of arty nudes.
Original Kirk actor William Shatner recently grumbled that he hadn't
been asked to appear in the new movie during an interview posted at williamshatner.com. Still, Abram's claimed that an appearance by the red-faced hamasaurus could still be on the cards
"We're desperately trying to figure out how to fit (in) Shatner, and
it needs to be worthy of him and the movie," the MI:3 director
announced.
As yet, there's no confirmation that Walter Koenig will return as a tribble.
