Already this year, we've had a trio of animated films of flat out quality. Pixar's Up, Henry Selick and Neil Gaiman's Coraline and the more recent Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs are all terrific in different ways, and there's also been the fun Monsters vs Aliens, the massive hit Ice Age 3 and the soon-to-hit-the-UK 9. And there's still more where animated treats are concerned. We've got Disney/Pixar about to re-release Toy Story for the first time, now in obligatory 3D, of course, and there's also the small matter of Wes Anderson's take on Fantastic Mr Fox.

Even though the trailers and promotional materials appear to have been reluctant to name him, it's based on the book by Roald Dahl (who is, granted, the author of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory as the Fantastic Mr Fox promotional material acknowledges, but he's also a genius author whose name isn't likely to be alien to people). I'm a massive Roald Dahl fan, and thought that Henry Selick's film of James And The Giant Peach showed just what could happen when quality stop motion animation met up with Dahl's stories (I still live in hope that Guillermo del Toro will do The Witches one day).

Wes Anderson, of course, is a director better known for the likes of Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic, but he too has now had a go at bringing Roald Dahl to the big screen. And his stop motion take on Fantastic Mr Fox looks a fascinating beast, attracting thus far middling-to-good reviews. I'm keen to see it, and the newly released second full length trailer for the film has done little to dampen my appetite for the film. Attracting a fantastic voice cast, I really liked this trailer more than the first one, and do feel free to offer your thoughts on it in the comments.

The film itself gets a UK release first (for a change!) on 23rd October, and it moves to the States from 25th November.
